How did you start blogging?
My friend Sharon Hurley Hall is inviting everyone to join her new group writing project, Blogging Start. All you have to do is post on your blog about how you got started in blogging, link to Sharon’s post, leave a comment on her post with a link to your post, and then explore all the other bloggers who have commented there. It will be a fun way to meet new blogging friends and share some comment love.
I started in 2005 with a single purpose: to journal my daily progress while first-drafting fugue. I’d been active in online forums for two or three years by then, but didn’t really know how to get started blogging when I decided to give it a go. In fact, I don’t think I actually knew anyone personally who was already blogging. But I’d read the word Blogger enough times in articles all over the interweb, so I googled it and dived right in.
The act of writing was never going to be a problem, so long as the platform was easy to use. Blogger couldn’t have been more straightforward. I posted my introduction a few minutes after opening the account and was soon part of an informal group of friendly writers, blogging away while we worked on our novels and getting to know each other. And that was that.
How did you get started? It’ll be good to hear everyone’s story. When you’ve posted, let us all know over at Sharon’s blog.

Hey, David, thanks for being the first to join in.
Blogger is an easy way to get started, isn’t it?

My pleasure, Sharon. Thanks for thinking this up.
Yes, Blogger was the ideal way for me to get started.

Thanks for sharing your Blogging Start.
I’m trying to remember what drew me to blogging so that I can share my own.

David,
Excellent way to build links. As an old timer my first monitor screen 12X12 was green with yellow fonts; it took a six foot table to hold it all and the printer was “dot” “dot” “dot” … been doing this a long time but will see if I can remember. Have a good weekend.

When I started seriously learning how to write, I worked on a word processor with an integral dot matrix printer that sat on a wooden dining table. Oh, the clatter that thing made!
Thank you, Annie. You have a good weekend too.

I am a Doc who plays mandolin in a bluegrass band. Over the years many people encouraged me to write of my travels.
A book is coming along, and due out in 2009. I started the blog at the suggestion of my agent, partly to network, but also to try and learn how to write.
I did not realize how much fun it was going to be, and plan to continue my blog long after the book is complete.
Hope you’ll come visit.

Hi Tom. Thanks for commenting.
I heard a lot of bluegrass while in the States at various times, especially during my visit to Savannah, and I enjoyed it a lot. I’ll certainly come over to your blog and will look forward to your book.
Are you going to join us at Blogging Start?

David,
I’ll swing by and leave a comment. But I wanted to say I admire your consistent blogging. I know it’s not easy to do… with life and all its complications. Good for you!!

Hi David,
I know Sharon from WritingUp days, so I added my own contribution to this writing project. I suppose you could name it, Survivor On WritingUp Island or something equally as dramatic. Ha, ha! Go read!

Hi. Thanks for sharing your story. I can see you all, rising like a phoenix-collective from the ashes of WritingUp! You and Sharon are impressive representatives of that project.

I started with Blogger too but have since moved on to host my own. I’m still fond of the platform, I just really like self hosting.

It seems Blogger was the ideal starter platform for many people. Of course, these days the buzz is that it has become the most virus-ridden blogging platform.
