I have just been offered a contract with my first agent. This is my first novel and number 2 is near completion. This article was INVALUABLE as a tool while negotiating our working relationship and career plan (hers and my own).

Thanks much for your straightforward article.

I love your final point and I never considered that before. I've been struggling for months with my current novel and I've avoided truly examining the possible reasons. Going in the wrong direction could be the true culprit and being willing to cut a few outtakes and try a new angle could be all I need to get back into the swing and pump out these final 20,000 words. Thanks!

There's definitely more seasoning, more patina, with age.
Your legs look strong. It inspires me to be more serious about my off-and-on running.

I never looked at it that way, but I guess I have to agree. However, I believe that there is also a naive quality that readers appreciate when they read. That is, if your younger character is SUPPOSED to be naive, and if it adds to the reading.

But, always looking for a new perspective on things, as I'm currently in the middle of my own novel, thank you.

I have finished writing my first draft and it's reached 73k... my way of writing is that I plan while I write... almost like the 'quick and dirty way'... i would now start the tedious job of washing out the 'dirty' stuff in it and make it more readable... I don't pre-plan the characters and the settings and then sit down to write... i just... sit down to write and everything appears... well.. kind of... it works for me..
